INTRODUCTION
On this page we will show you the use of sound and how we added it to our trailer. Beforehand, you can see what trailer sounds that has inspired us. real media texts too. After this, you will see many screen grabs of our process to adding sound to our trailer. The software we used to create our sound will be Logic x
INSPIRATIONS
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension
|
What we liked about the sound in this Paranormal activity the ghost dimension trailer is that they used lots of bass sounds to give jump scares, also the use of thuds was effective as it thuds while new texts pop up. the airy sounds was used well as it made you feel surrounded in the trailer, it also engaging the audience. I also really the dialogue used of the little child saying "bloody mary". This was really good as the child voice is normal heard to be very scary in horror films

The Purge: Anarchy
The use of dialogue in the beginning of a woman counting down was effective because right after that the thud sounds come strong and then the title pops up. this was great as it keep the tempo of the trailer fast and keeps the scare factor up. The drum patten keeps the tempo of the trailer. This keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. The use of metal screams was used well because it sounds weird and because the sound is panned both left and right it surround you and makes you feel like your apart of the trailer.

This trailer worked well because they used lots of silence sounds so when the thuds hit its more harder and powerful and puncher this makes the sound more scary as you don't know when the thuds come which means it gives you a jump scary when the thuds happens. the use of the wind sound make the trailer sound more weird and the use of the boogieman sound also makes the trailer shocking as its sounds like a child singing it

It Follows
what i like about this trailer is that it sounds nice and soft in the begin and it makes you drop your guards. then.... it hits really hard with the bass then it becomes more scary as they use the thuds for the footsteps. the dialogue which was "this thing. is going to Follow you". using the word thing was really effective as you don't know what the thing. this makes you want to watch it so you find out what is following her. also the fast past makes you feeling like you are being chased and makes you feel like you are apart of the trailer.

The Process
The program I used to make the sound was Logic x. I found it easier to use because I was able to import the video and work alongside it, this was handy as it allowed me to stay in time with the trailer and have the impacts of the thuds in the right place. Also it allows me to change and modify each sound, this was handy when i was trying to make the thuds. The downloaded files are just some of the sounds we used in our sound track for our trailer.

The program we used to make the sound was Logic x pro, we found it easier to make and combine sounds in order create the best sounds behind the video. because we had someone on our team that can play the piano it was easy to get a child melody that was played for 4 bars, after that we added more insturmenst like drums and violins. the reason we went for a different type of sound was because as a team we felt like the more emotional the sound it became more easier to build up tension needed to suit the nature of the genre.

we had a folder of lots of different sounds for, lots of thuds and drones, this was help as we could just drag the file into Logic x or Adobe Premiere Pro cc 2015 and have a loud scary thud. Also the sounds had an element of horror so it was easy to have the sounds adapeted to the video.
|
This screenshot shows the progress in which we made using logic pro x. We found it easy to work with the animatic as we was able to import the video into the program so it was easy to sync the thuds and sub bass.

The syncing to the video was done well in my opinion, this was because we was able to have the video in time with the MIDI files,

The screenshot on the left shows the instruments we used for the making of the sounds. The piano was the main sounds. its the sound you hear in the beginning and end. The tuba and cellos are there for back up and to keep the sound moving.
The screenshot on the right shows the controls, here is were we check if it distorting and overlapping. Here we can also EQ the sounds and make it sounds more basses and deep. This is good for when we need thuds and impact sounds

This video helped us get a understanding on how to compose for films and trailer.
The files under the text are the two different sounds tracks we have done for our trailer.
