I N T R O D U C T I O N
This section will be all about the costume and make up for our
horror trailer. Costume and makeup is incredibly important in creating
a signature look for our antagonist, we are going to show you how this has allowed us to create a unique selling point for our film Mazed.
We have created character profiles as an effective way as presenting
what each character will look like for the trailer.
I will also be including references to the props needed for the shoot, there will also
be practical video sessions of makeup attempts for zombies and bruising.
Finally we will express what inspired our costume and makeup from real media text.

INSPIRATIONS.
Special effects makeup artist..
TOM SAVINI
Tom Savini has been described as a legend in this genre, he's a famous special effects makeup artist who has been working since the 70s. Well known for his excellence in gore effect Savini has worked in iconic films such as Friday The 13th, Dawn Of The Dead and Maniac. He has had a massive influence on horror film and fiction in the industry for the past decade, without someone like Savini special effects in horror would be a different thing today. Savini's work had a great impact on the 80's Splatterpunk movement which has helped to shape todays horror industry in many media formats.
Savini has been such an inspiration to horror that there's even a school program named in his honor 'Tom Savini's Special Make Up Effects Program' were young special effect makeup students are trained to be the next big thing in the industry.
"The God Father Of Gore"
"The Sultan Of Splatter"
His signature style and techniques bring vivid realism to genre films.
Being an authour of may books on special effects which are detailed in production and mechanical workings of his famous film effects, really emphasise on the large amount of skill, knowledge, talent and practice he has in this field, which overall shows why he is not only an inspiration to me when it comes to special effects but to the world...

DAWN OF THE DEADI like the special effects make up used in dawn of the dead, because its quite simplistic and effective rather than being extreme and unrealistic
|
THE EVIL DEADI like the evil dead's make up because it focused on creating a great gorey look on the face, I felt like it could be used as an inspiration for our own makeup.
|
28 WEEKS LATER28 weeks later is a good inspiration because I liked the mouth rips some zombies had and I thought overall their makeup was effective for their story line.
|
THE EXCORCISTFor the exorcist I like the cuts and bruises they used on her face which helped trigger ideas for how our antagonist should look
|
DRACULAI like the costume of the antagonist. It inspired us with our own antagonists costume. which portrays wealth and sophistication which is a contrast to the connotations that come with horror.

SPECIAL FX MAKE UP ATTEMPTS.
Before attempting my own special fx makeup, I watched various Youtube videos to learn
the tricks and techniques needed as well as gaining inspiration.
Below are some of the online tutorials I've gained inspiration from when attempting my own.

I liked this tutorial because I thought the zombie bite looked quite realistic and effective, I found the tutorial easy to follow and liked the fact he included what I would need to have a go myself.
|
I used this tutorial as an inspiration because he created and effective look easily and made it simple, even using common household tools.
|
I liked this Chelsea smile tutorial because the look is quite unique and it was easy to follow and practice on myself. I also thought it would be a good design for our trailer to represent cannibalism.
|
This was my first time attempting to do a neck bite,
it took me quite long time to set the liquid latex, once doing so I didn't have any big difficulties with finishing off the look. I used liquid latex, Halloween cream colours, and fake blood.
I was considering to use this look on one of the cannibals for our horror trailer.

My favourite look is the ripped mouth because I think it will nicely portray
the theme of cannibalism for our trailer, I used special fx wax, liquid latex, ben nyes bruise wheel and fake blood to create it.
I also like the claw marks on the cheek (picture on the right) because it was quick and simple
to do and is also an effective look.

The images above are what our antagonists make up and costume will look like.
We wanted to give him unique burns/sores on his face instead of using a mask.
Our antagonists make up will be our unique selling point, because our audience will be able to identify him by it.
